Leaving Meaning
Leaving Meaning is a photographic exploration of miscommunication, born from my personal fear of cognitive decline. To mimic the impairment and frustration experienced by those with dementia, I use long-exposure techniques focused on variable-message signs. These images evoke a jarring sense of misunderstanding. Fragments of language are there to be seen, begging to be understood, yet we can't make sense of what lies just beyond reach. The photos themselves also speak more broadly to experiences of miscommunication. The moments when words fail, when signals are crossed, when language proves inadequate. In a world flooded with messages, these photographs ask: what happens when we can no longer trust that meaning will arrive intact?
This project is ongoing.
