Sylvan
Sylvan Beach is a town on the east end of Oneida Lake in central NY. It was a place I use to visit often as a child and had very fond memories of. At the beginning of the pandemic I was forced to move home from New York City, and by the end of may I was moving back. The week before I moved back to the city I started reflecting more on my childhood and where I grew up. Having been away for the first time in my life, I had a newfound appreciation for the area I grew up in. Sylvan Beached Popped into my head as a prominent location. For each of the 7 days before I moved I would drive to Sylvan and make photographs for this project. I wanted to not only reflect on an area that brought many fond memories as a kid, but to also document and explore the effects that COVID-19 has had on a town that is heavily reliant on tourism.
